Virginia legislators vote to increase caps on damage awards to medical negligence victims Friday, February 25, 2011
Washington Post: A bill that would increase the cap on damages awarded to Virginians injured by medical negligence has gone to Gov. Bob McDonnell for his signature after being approved by the state’s General Assembly, reports Anita Kumar. In the late 1970s Virginia enacted a $750,000 cap on non-economic damages; that cap has risen steadily and is now at $2 million. This bill would raise it gradually to $2.95 million by 2030.
